Obituary For John David Raffauf

John David Raffauf, 73, of Nashville, IN, passed away on February 11th, 2023, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

John was born on June 27th, 1949 to John and Jo Raffauf in Louisville, KY. After graduating from Bishop David High School in 1967, John went on to study at J.B. Speed School of Engineering at the University of Louisville..

John had several careers in different fields. He served in the National Guard for 7 years and earned the rank Sergeant First Class (E-7), working on sighting systems for artillery. He worked as a chemist researching catalysts. He created medical hardware and software for controlling x-ray machines, medical beds, as well as a system for monitoring race horses. He co-created child support computer systems used in several counties and states including Jefferson County, KY; Allegheny County, PA; Marion County, IN; Hartford, CT; Marin County, CA; and Washington, D.C.. He worked with an international team to create software to build and maintain pavement for roads and airports..

John's hobbies included Arthurian research, fine woodworking, serial home renovation, travel, reading, political analysis, and writing control software for sophisticated surveillance radios.

John was predeceased by step-daughter Catherine Telle. He is survived by his wife Janet Raffauf; step-daughter, Angie Mahone (Brian); daughter, Erica Girvin (Andrew); son, David Raffauf (Noriko); 10 grandchildren; and siblings Janice, Mike, Cathy, Becky, Lisa, and Mary..

A celebration of life will be held at Abe Martin Lodge at the Brown County State Park on February 20th.

    I have had the pleasure of knowing John since the 1980s, working with and for him on many occasions throughout the years. I am very thankful for Johns help and guidance which has greatly contributed to my long and successful career. Please accept my most sincere condolences.

    John taught me several things about the finer things in life. Dark chocolate and Champagne to name a few. On one of my visits with John he was eating M&M's. I asked him why M&M's and not dark chocolate. He responded sometimes it is about quantity not quality.

    John and I were members of the Bishop David HS drama club. We set up the sound and lighting systems. A great guy and best man at my wedding. My sincere condolences to John's family.

    I am so glad I got to know John better in the last 2 years. He was a remarkable man and it was my privilege to know him as my uncle.
