It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Tressie Jean White, affectionately known as Jean or Grandma. She passed away peacefully on September 9, 2025, leaving a legacy of love and laughter. Born on October 16, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois, to Bessie and George Childress, Jean was a true hero who never let anything stand in her way.
Jean grew up in Tennessee and was one of nine children. She lived a life full of incredible adventures, from cross-country road trips to cooking for everyone she loved, always with infectious energy and a smile that could light up any room. Her laughter was contagious, and her greatest joy was being surrounded by family.
Ms. Jean, as she was known to all, was a special person who found the good in everyone. She was a beacon of love and forgiveness who would tell you to have faith, "even if it's the size of a mustard seed." You never left her house hungry or with a single worry, and her hugs were a source of comfort. She was married three times, with her last and longest marriage to the love of her life, Joseph White (1945-2021).
Jean is survived by her two children, Amy (Robert) Carroll and Eric Adams, and her seven grandchildren: Katelinjo (Rodger) Brown, Steven (Kat) Carroll-De'La Cour, Andrew (Hailey) Carroll, Michelle (Carlina) Estrada, Michael Adams, Mark Adams, and Charles Harrison Jr. She is also survived by the great-grandchildren who were her world.
