Shirley Mae Hartley, 86, of Monticello, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026. Born on March 15, 1940, in Flint, Michigan, she was the daughter of Ture Wendel and Bertha Kielman.
Shirley was a devoted woman of faith who dedicated her life to serving God and others. She pastored several churches throughout her life, ministered at numerous congregations, led countless Bible studies, and guided many individuals in their spiritual journeys. Her unwavering commitment to her faith and her community left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Family was at the heart of Shirley’s life. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jimme Hartley; her parents; her sister Mary Ann Taylor; her brothers Carol Wendel, Arnold Wendel, Bruce Wendel, David Wendel, and John Wendel; and her stepsons Jim and Joe Hartley. She is survived by her loving daughters Sabrina Hammond, Victoria Hartley, and Jean-nette Hartley; cherished grandchildren Erica Gilbert, Houston Gilbert, Charlie Saddler, Shyanne Hartley, Sierra Hartley, and Jozzie Hartley; and treasured great-grandchildren Riley Gilbert, Alona Hartley, Abigail Gilbert and Julian Hartley. Shirley also leaves behind her dear sisters Kay Pottorf, Wendy Hill, Debbie Wendel, Christine Wendel, Lori Wendel, and Roxanne Harper. Additionally, she is remembered fondly by many nephews and nieces.
Known affectionately as the "Nana," Shirley’s love for her family was boundless. She always put God first but ensured that her children had everything they needed. Her home was a sanctuary where anyone could find a shoulder to cry on or words of encouragement. Her wisdom and compassion made her a pillar of strength for those around her.
Shirley's legacy is one of faithfulness, love, and selflessness. May her memory bring comfort to all who were blessed to know her.
