Rebecca Sue Barnett

December 4, 1951 — December 27, 2023

Rebecca Sue Barnett was born on the 4th of December 1951 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was adopted by loving parents James and Arlene Burrus of Borger, Texas. Becky's hard-fought battle with cancer ended on December 27, 2023. Wednesday at 10:05 pm, surrounded by her family, she went home to be with her Savior Jesus Christ.

Becky graduated from Borger High School and continued to Texas Tech University where she completed most of her college work before graduating in 1975 with her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from University of Texas in Arlington. Her spiritual life flourished during her college years as she actively participated in several campus ministries including Campus Crusade for Christ. She later met and fell in love with her husband and life-long partner, Bill Barnett, during a summer missions project at South Lake Tahoe. Bill and Becky were married, in Texas, on May 18, 1974. In 1977 they started their family, and she began her greatest life's work as the beloved mother to four children - Brady, Brooke, Brittany and Brianna. She was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, and friend. She carried a God-given magnetism that drew people to her everywhere she went. Her joyful disposition and love for our Savior was evident in every aspect of her life. Her brilliant mind, inquisitive nature, love for reading, kindness, tenderness, humility, creativity, insight, humor, and ability to make others feel loved are a few of the many characteristics her family and friends cherish most.

Becky was not only a dedicated wife and mother, but faithfully worked and contributed to her community throughout her tremendous life sharing her innate gifts as an artist, tutor, and teacher. Her work included creating and illustrating slides and learning materials for professors at Dallas Theological Seminary, various commissioned art projects within her community, home-school teacher, and several years with Taylor Intermediate School in Kokomo, Indiana; all while supporting Bill as a pastor's wife. Becky led small groups and Bible studies, impacting many and making life-long friends. Becky and Bill moved to Bloomington, Indiana in 2019 to pursue Faculty Commons ministry on the IU Bloomington campus. She enjoyed the in-depth training for this position as well as getting to work alongside Bill sharing the gospel and love of Jesus Christ with those around them.

Becky is survived by her husband Bill; children, Brady Barnett (Sarah), Brooke Morrow (Jeremiah), Brittany Cook (Danny), and Brianna Barnett; grandchildren Camille, Reese, Norah, Presley, Kendall, Isla, Cora, and Gideon; brother Jay Burrus (Gayla).

Becky is preceded in death by her parents James (Mary Frances) and Arlene Burrus, and her beloved mother and father-in-law, Jim and Sue Barnett.
