Raymond L. Thompson passed away on July 16, 2026, in Columbus, Indiana. He was born on April 9, 1942, in Nashville, Indiana, to Rex Thompson, Sr. and Millie Ann Thompson.

He graduated from Nashville High School in 1960. He then served in the United States Army beginning in 1964, including service in Vietnam in 1965, and completed his military service in 1966.

Raymond married Diane Nitschke Thompson in 1966. Together they had two sons, Russell Thompson and Ryan Thompson. They were also blessed with three granddaughters, Hannah Thompson, Maddie Thompson, and Claire Thompson.

He worked at Cummins Engine Company in Columbus for 30 years, retiring in 1992. He then went to work at Salt Creek Golf Course, where he continued to enjoy his greatest passion—golf. Raymond won many tournaments and club championships throughout the years.

After retiring from Salt Creek Golf Course, he enjoyed spending his time with his faithful pet shadow, Holly, as well as his golf cart and John Deere tractor.

A Celebration of Life will be held on the afternoon of August 22, 2026, at Salt Creek Golf Course in Nashville, Indiana.
