Parnell Roy Parr Jr., age 81, of Louisville, passed away on February 23, 2026. Born on August 7, 1944, in Louisville, Kentucky, Parnell was the beloved son of Parnell Parr Sr. and Anna Bell Parr. He lived a life marked by kindness, humor, and unwavering faith. Known for his warm smile and friendly spirit, Parnell never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand. A proud Vietnam Veteran, Parnell served his country honorably during the Vietnam War, where he manned the D-20 Howitzer. He received an honorable discharge in recognition of his faithful and dedicated service to his country. Before his military service, he was an outstanding athlete. He was inducted into the Male High School Hall of Fame for his athletic achievements and attended Tennessee State University on a full scholarship for football and track before being drafted into the war. Parnell was known for his strong work ethic and his ability to brighten any room with his smile. Outside of work, he enjoyed watching sports, Western films, and classic black-and-white movies. He was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and rarely missed a game. At an early age he gave his life to Christ at Antioch Baptist Church. Parnell joined Greater New Beginnings Christian Church, under the guidance of Senior Pastor, Darrell Wilson. He attended church, Sunday school, bible study and all church programs faithfully until the last few weeks of his life when his health no longer allowed him to. Parnell gave his unconditional love to every member and visitor that walked through the doors of the church. Those who knew Parnell will remember him for his joyful spirit, generous heart, and willingness to help anyone. Parnell is survived by his sons, Virgil Parr and Jason Brownlee; his nephews, Tim Johnson, Patrick “Pancake” Brents (Carolyn), Reggie Mucker (Pamela), Curtis “Fella” Parr Jr., Neil Brents, and Lance Parr; his nieces, Lavette Parr and Ronnie Parr; and a great host of great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Parnell Parr Sr.; his mother, Anna Bell Parr; his brother, Curtis Parr; his sisters, Arletta Parr and Iris “Tissie” Parr; and his nephew, Jacque' Brents. A memorial service will be held at Greater New Beginnings Christian Church on Saturday, March 7th, at 11:00 am. May his memory be a source of strength, comfort, and inspiration to all who knew and loved him.
