Joan Lee Kathleen Hixon passed away March 29, 2025 in Carmel, Indiana. Joan was born on May 13th, 1935 in Saint Louis, Missouri to William Charles Houston and Elizabeth Barbara Houston (Wohaska). Joan had one sibling; William Charles Houston whose spouse was Martha Lillian Houston (Newman). Both her parents, her brother, and his spouse proceeded her in death as well as nephews Steven Andrew Houston and Michael James Houston.
Joan was married to Lieutenant Joseph Lee Hixon, USAF, in 1956 in Houston, Texas. Major Hixon, USAF retired, passed away in August of 1985. She is survived by her two sons, Joseph Lee Hixon Jr., and James Lee Hixon, his wife Elly Marie Hixon (Smith), and her grandson James Lee Hixon II. She is survived by her nephew and niece, William Charles Houston III, and Pamela Desruisseaux. In addition, she is also survived by her step-grandchildren Natasha Parker and Nathan J. Rhinesmith, and four great step-grandchildren.
She graduated high school in Houston, Texas, 1953, and from the University of Hawaii in 1972. She worked as a substitute teacher at Westfield High School and Hamilton Heights. She and Joe enjoyed their weekends attending auctions, antique shows, flea markets, and museums. In later years, she worked at Marsh’s Village Pantry, she enjoyed her long hours and meeting many people. She was an avid reader; her books were her passport to traveling the world.
Mother Hixon will be truly missed by her family and friends. Auf Wiedersehen Die Hausfrau.
