Dean Steven Kriskovich, 80, of Avon, Indiana, passed away on April 25, 2026. Born on May 7, 1945, in Ashland, Wisconsin, he was the son of Rose and Joseph Kriskovich. Dean spent his early years on his family’s dairy farm, where he developed a lifelong curiosity about machinery and how things worked—an interest that would shape both his career and his hobbies.
He attended the Gale Institute in Minneapolis, studying Mechanical Engineering Design. In 1966, Dean enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served as a cryptographer. After his military service, he built a successful career in design and field sales, retiring from Nol-Tec Systems. His work took him around the world, and he became known for his inventive mind and innovative approach to improving equipment, product development, and materials handling. In 2003, he was recognized as the inventor of a United States patent titled “Method for Forming Fiber Reinforced Composite Parts,” developed for use in aircraft brakes.
Dean was involved in his Avon community, serving for many years as President of the Prestwick CSA. At home, he could be counted on to build or fix anything. One of his greatest joys was restoring John Deere tractors. After building his own hay wagon, he delighted in giving children rides at community and church events, creating lasting memories for many families. He also built numerous bluebird houses for the local Bluebird Society, sharing his love of nature and craftsmanship.
Dean and his wife, Pat, shared a love of travel and adventure, exploring many countries together and especially enjoying cruises during their retirement years.
Nothing brought Dean more happiness than time spent with his four granddaughters—Zoe, Ava,
Amelia, and Grace. He poured his creativity and love into building dollhouses for them and even crafted a steam-driven Erector Set Ferris wheel that dropped candy into their hands. As “Grandpa Dean,” he created cherished traditions, teaching them how to shell corn with an antique sheller, grind it, and bake cornbread—a special Thanksgiving activity that will be remembered with love for years to come.
Dean is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Patricia of Avon, Indiana; his children, Deanna Kriskovich of Minneapolis and Shaun Kriskovich (Kristine) of Brownsburg; his stepchildren, Julia Taylor (Bob) of Fishers and Kathryn Kilbride (Eric) of Broad Ripple; his brother, Thomas Kriskovich (Donna) of Ashland, Wisconsin; and many dearly loved nieces and nephews.
