Lucille Heironimus

Lucille Heironimus' life was one of faithful service. She tirelessly used her servant heart to the fullest as she helped so many and provided all who knew her with a model of the Christian spirit in action. On June 22, 2022, she quietly and peacefully was called to her post in Heaven, where her caring for others can continue forever. On February 18, 1934, she was born into the large farming family of Charles D. and Iva Mae (Parker) Mangus. She is survived by her sister Bette (Richard) Wakeman (Bradenton, FL) and brother Roger (Sharon) Mangus (Union Mills). She was proceeded to her eternal home by her parents, and siblings: Charles, Violet, Glenn, Howard, Harold, Lloyd, Doris, Robert, and Roland and Edith. Her family's circle of love grew on August 24, 1957, when she married Wesley G. Heironimus in Union Mills. During their nearly 65 years of marriage, they were very seldom apart, they loved to dance, travel, and entertain; they worked together on family, church, and civic projects, and enjoyed many evenings relaxing with family and friends at the home they built on the Mangus farm. Lucy was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She treasured her family and embraced every moment she had with her children, Lori (David) Wakeman, Indianapolis, IN; Lisa Reitmeyer, Mesa, AZ; and Kent (Traci) Heironimus, Hanna, IN; grandchildren Courtney (Josh) Walton, Mooresville, IN; Chelsea (Matt) Laucher, Fishers, IN; Nicole and Ben Reitmeyer, Mesa, AZ; and great-granddaughter Addison Kate Laucher. She was just weeks away from welcoming her first great-grandson into our world; but we all find peace knowing he will now come to us after first receiving her love from above! Her family will forever share her supportive, compassionate spirit and will strive to project the love, she so freely shared with others. She was an enthusiastic supporter of her children, grandchildren, great grandchild, and many of the children she took under her wing as her career progressed; she attended every sporting event and school or church program/activity she possibly could (usually with a plate of cookies!) She is survived by these family members which she loved and empowered, forever leaving her handprint on their hearts. Lucy was a nurse…not because she had the letters R.N. after her name and had earned a diploma. It was deeper than that…it was in her DNA! She was constantly nursing, caring, helping people in every avenue of her life. She began her career at Holy Family Hospital and continued for years with VNA, in nursing homes, and her final post as the school nurse at South Central Community Schools for 25 years. At SC, she was in her glory, taking care of students, staff, custodians, and bus drivers! She provided more than the needed ice packs, Band-aids, and fluoride treatments, everyone knew they could come to her for hugs, lunch money, advice, a counselor's ear, and an open heart. Lucy's church served her, and she served Bethel Presbyterian Church. It provided the fuel she needed to do so much. She was the treasurer for 47 years, had many terms as a ruling elder and deacon, was very active in the women's association, and served on several building/remodeling/pastoral nominating committees. If there was something going on at church, Lucy was likely involved somehow. She was very generous with her time, talents, and energies. Please join us in celebrating the life of this special lady on Thursday, July 14th, 2022, at her church, Bethel Presbyterian, 110 East Hamilton St, Union Mills, IN. The family will be present for visitation from 9:30 -11:30 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:30 a.m. and a meal in the church's fellowship area. Interment will be in Union Mills Cemetery. All who loved her dearly will never forget her energy, tenacity, sense of humor, grace, and her undying love and caring for them. Memorial gifts may be directed to Bethel Presbyterian Church, Union Mills Lion's Club, or a charity of your choice. She would be so pleased!
