Johnny Wayne Brown

November 24, 1955 — July 13, 2023

Johnny W. Brown died Thursday July 13 after a fierce battle with Cancer. The son of Martha Ragland Brown and the late Charles Brown, Johnny was a lifelong resident of Muncie and a 1974 graduate of Muncie Southside HS. He worked for Delbert Dawson & Son for 45 years as a welder and draftsman. He loved his job and the people he worked with.
In his spare time John was an avid gardener, loved to work on his 3-story painted lady in the Old Washington Street Neighborhood and enjoyed making beautiful stain glass artworks.
Johnny was the perfect example of a kind soul, going out of his way to help strangers as easily as family and friends. He never used his small size as excuse not to achieve his goals, he was brilliant when it came to talent and design and stayed on task until the end.He also loved history and animals and was a constant source of information while helping his nieces and nephews with schoolwork.
Surviving with his mother are sister Kathy (Vince) Alt, Fort Wayne. Nephew Bruce (Hayley) Berg, nieces Chondra (Burke) Locke & Wendy Berg. Second generation nephews Trenton Waters, Anthony Locke & Liam Berg. Nieces Chelsea (Clayton) Combs, Leah and Ellie Berg, Emileigh, and Bethany Locke. Third generation nephews and nieces Charlotte Waters, Preston Schultz, Jayce Foster, Oliver & Olivia Schultz. And bonus nephew Luke Foster, all of Muncie.
He was preceded in death by his spouse of 35 years Wendell Stephens, surrogate son Dwight Ference, brother Charlie Brown, sister Connie Berg and father.
Johnny wanted to thank those family and friends that helped him so much these past few years, especially Chondra, Bruce, Leah, and Luke for giving so much of themselves for him. Also, the IUBMH Cancer Center, NP Ann Simpson with Open Door, and IU Hospice that helped the family take care of him at home that allowed all to be with him.
Per his request there will be no service, if you wish to honor him, we suggest the American Cancer Society.
